SD Wildlife

On Thursday Feb 15th my husband and I went for a drive in the Black Hills of SD. only about 15 minutes outside Rapid City. We wanted to enjoy the white , crunchy, sparkly beauty of the snow covered hills and trees. It was -17 degrees that morning. We knew with the predicted warmer temps and strong wind that the snow would not last long. We were blessed by seeing some big horn sheep at the upper right and many deer. My husband took the picture of the 2 posing deer as they were on his side of the van. They stood there so beautiful while he rolled down the window and took the picture. Then another deer who had been laying to the left jumped up and they all ran gracefully away. Today our temp got up to 50 degrees so much of the snow is gone, especially the snow on the trees. The 65 mph wind gusts yesterday also made short work of the snow. Now the Northern hills around Lead and Deadwood had over a foot of snow yesterday and with the winds have quite big drifts to contend with. The snowmobilers are happy. They come from surrounding states to enjoy the beautiful trails around deadwood and Spearfish area.
