New Year 2016, joyful week with our family visiting

January 1st our oldest daughter, her husband and our 5 grandchildren came for a week long visit.  We are so happy they got to come and we thank God for their safe trip even though they had to drive on ice for part of the trip.
We just had the best time.   The following pictures will just touch a bit of that fun family time.
First things first!   Open the Christmas gifts
that had been so patiently waiting under the tree.

Left is the middle child showing her oak dolphin jewelry wall hanger made special by her Papa.

Our grandson is 16 and has recently purchased his own car so tools were the perfect gift for him.
Below is our grandson who loves Armadillos so the ceder wood box with the armadillo in it was a surprise.
(anyone know how hard it is to find a armadillo?)

"YAY, YAY, YAY!  My favorite fragrence!"

That looks just like her cat Rusty.
This intricate cat color book will keep her busy for awhile and out of trouble too.  (
Just kidding.)

Ear phones with a mike, and ear buds too.

This oak butterfly will hold a lot of jewelry,  Papa reads the back as he signed it and wrote,
Hand crafted by Papa.  December 2015

Fragrance for our daughter and Jeff is looking at our photo book of memories from their family.

 Now they have no excuse
 to not have things charged.

We had so much fun taking turns
 opening our gifts.
WOW!  The #1 thing on my Christmas list!  Thank You for the nice warm slippers.

Sunday after Church, Bible class and Sunday School, mother and daughter pose for a together picture. Just got to do that once in awhile.
Everyone helped with the meal preparations,  cutting the ham and scoping the cheesy potatoes.
Getting acquainted with our neighbors 6 puppies (now 6 mo old Bullmastiffs)
and Angel the mother dog,

A little history as our 7 yr old granddaughter plays with my old doll house that I got for Christmas when I was about 7 yr's old.  (they just don't make them like that any more)
Ready for bed and excited to sleep on the couch with the battery candle and lite Christmas tree.

We enjoyed several rounds of LIFE ON THE FARM game.  Yes, we even named our cows.
Sporting the special sweatshirt we gave her for her 18th Birthday in October.  And we certainly do think she is pretty AWESOME!

Sunday evening was Family swim at our local indoor Roosevelt swim center.
Lots of fun activities and exercise at this big pool.

I was hoping to capture a photo of our 10 yr old grandson coming down and shooting out the water slide but that just didn't happen.  Yes, he talked me into going down that thing twice. It is fast and scary and everyone laughed at me, even the 7 year old.

Jeff and the two granddaughters swam a few laps in the cooler lap pool. I made 2 laps myself.  Just a bit out of shape I would say.
Below I did get one picture of our 10 year old grandson before he sped of to enjoy himself.

This was another of our fun gift games,  everyone got to choose which gift of two they wanted to open.  They could only see these 2 gifts, gift #1 or gift #2.    Little did they know that 3 days latter they would actually get to open and have the rejected gift that they didn't choose.  One gift had something special that I knew they would especially enjoy eating or drinking. The other gift was a cheaper even dollar store gift.  Here our grandson just opened a pencil.  Ha He He Ha!
Even though this was the gag gift she was very excited about these green ear bud's.

AH HA!  She got the good gift,  "Papa's grapefruit" and it is all hers!

A big jar of Jiff peanut butter and it is all mine!

Another evening we made this special treat and everyone seemed to enjoy a whole funnel cake topped with powder sugar.  Just like at the State fair only a lot cheaper.

He got to make his own and you can tell, extra powdered sugar.  YUM!

I will sign off this post but be sure to check back in a few days for the next post about the rest of our fun family January Adventures.

Our Annual Christmas party "WHAT IN THE HECK IS IT"

Every year for the past 20 years or more we have had a Christmas party for our friends.  It is always a very fun event with a certain theme.  This year however had to be the craziest funniest party yet with our very weird theme,
"WHAT IN THE HECK IS THAT!"

We all enjoyed a visit and catching up on each other's busy lives.  Verle wore her very interesting special Christmas hat.
's

The men enjoyed a visit also.

Everyone brought a treat or dish. We even had a dish that was "What in the heck is that?"     It was Osso Buco .  That was a first as we all got to taste this differnt food, OSSO BUCO!
After a short Devotion on "What in the Heck is it?" from the Bible,  (Mana, the burning bush and the moving star)  and a prayer, we enjoyed many delitious snacks and drinks.
One way to get everyone to look at the Christmas tree is make it into a game!
Then we had a game with many strange items passed around for each to guess "What in the heck is it?"
Lots of conversation and guessing going on.

There were even strange foods to taste and guess "What in the heck is it?"

One of our party guests named the 3 taste items,
"YUC #1,  YUC #2,  and YUC # 3.
It was so fun listening to some of the weird guesses.
Time to open the anonymous wrapped gifts.  We were all very confused about the traveling "BEE"  It just didnt appear that it could be in any of the packages. Then Cal opened his little pkg and low and behold,  there was a note.
And Rich brought in the big box as you can see below.    What in the heck is it?

I love all those colorful ? ? ? ? ? on the box.

The traveling BEE had been turned into a big yellow question mark.  Needless to say this brought out some hearty laughter and chuckles.  Funny thing is,  Cal had been so careful in previous years to  "NOT GET THE BEE".

The  next few pictures are of some of the other "What in the heck is it" gifts.

REALLY?  A SUGAR BEET?
Now that is a "REAL" YUC!

A real corn husker from Nebraska.

Such a fun party and great friends.
Our next party will have the theme,
 AWAY IN A MANGER.
Jeff built a stable for our home made Nativity figures.  He used scrap wood that he already had in the garage.  It only took him a few hours.  Now we can display the true message of Christmas in our yard.  Our true, best gift was our Savior Jesus Christ came to us as a baby to save us from our sins that all who believe and are Baptized.  What a joy it is to know our sins have all been paid for (in full) by our loving sinless Jesus.    HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS.

Jeff and I had crab legs for Christmas.  Our gifts were on the table, not under the tree.
