The Thaw, May 4,2008

Remember this picture from Friday May 2nd about 4PM? This is our Lilac bush with snow cover.

Sunday 4PM
As you can tell from these photo's, the snow has been thawing at a very fast rate. Saturday the temperature climbed to almost 60 degrees.
Now today, Sunday, it is up to 73 degrees. You can see we still have snow but it is going fast. I can almost see it melt away.
As the grass started to show,
we were in amazement how very green it looked.
I always remember My dad,
almost 90 years old now and having been a farmer for all his life,
saying that a late wet snow is poor man's fertilizer from God.
It certainly is true, nothing is as good as what comes from Heaven.
We give thanks to our Heavenly Father for this gift of moisture and
nourishment for a very dry area.

There was some damage, even in our small insignificant yard.
Here is a tulip that broke off.
Just North, where snow totaled some 48 inch's, there were numerous calves and lambs lost. Also about 1,500 broken power poles.

There is still some snow holding down spring plants in my garden.

Just look how nicely they stand up and hold their heads up high.
These little grape hyacinths can sure take a beating
and still come out strong.

These are some of the tulips that were also broken off, I thought they deserved a crystal vase (wine glass) and they can adorn our table.
I hope you are all enjoying warmth, sunshine and good health!
